DIY Meal Kits Are Back For Lockdown 2.0

Updated: Nov 27, 2020

August was a great month for us all. The Eat Out to Help Out scheme got us visiting our favourite restaurants at up to 50% off. So we went, weekly, daily, often and the encouragement definitely got us out more. We are now truly missing those great deals but what we would miss more is if those restaurants never opened their doors again. As we are now deep into the second lockdown, back in full swing are the DIY box kits from some of the finest dines around. Helping keep the restaurants afloat as they take yet another massive hit financially, the boxes are doing both sides of the party favours as we are missing out dining on their delicious menus too.

With the DIY kits, you receive a box through the post of the most exquisite flavours and freshest produce with an easy step by step guide or video tutorial on how to create your own menu specials. As much as we want to list them all, there are so many more jumping on the bandwagon this time around and because of the rise in popularity this year, we have seen the launch of Restaurant Kits, a website dedicated to the concept and allowing you to browse them all in one place.

So check out the following iconic restaurants and their staple dishes that you can create in your kitchen and get your delicious fix until they can open again.

They have a selection of remarkably fun and tasty kits to choose from. Straight off their menu, the ‘Ari Gold’ cheeseburger, the ‘Smokey Robinsons’ and the ‘Plant-Based’ options are available to make. Yum!

Pizza Pilgrim’s presents The Frying Pan Pizza Kit. Best believe it, you can cook a pizza in a frying pan apparently! The kit allows you to make two of their classic and delicious Margherita's but you can always spice them up by adding some of your own toppings. Watch their very own James talk you through the process.

The Made-By-You kits come in either Classic Pork or Vegetarian Daikon. Bao Connects allows you to cook along together virtually with friends or colleagues from afar which can be guided by one of the Bao experts who will provide history and stories on the Taiwanese dish. Once you have finished your creations you can and share the joy of the experience with each other afterwards on video.

One of our fave vegan spots in London has these spectacular kits for you to give a go at home. Try the meaty alternatives to the Reuben Sandwich, Dirty & Chick'n Burgers or perhaps go for the Broccoli Mac ’N’ Cheeze. It’s a tricky choice!

Rudy’s recently opened the UK first Vegan Butcher, be sure to check it out.

The mouth-watering Venimoo burgers from Mac & Wild can now be delivered to your door for you to put together yourself. They have also recently announced their Virtual Festive Dining Kits too, which can be a great activity to bring teams and friends together with no limit on numbers, hosted by Mac & Wild co-founder, Andy Waugh.

For seafood lovers, feed the family with the London Shell Co.'s creamy and inviting fish pie or try the lighter Lockdown Lunch Box. The kits are made up of the finest and freshest ingredients packed full of flavour.

The amazing Bluebirds (Part of D&D London) brunch experience can now be enjoyed at home. Choose one of their kits that come with Champagne and top up as much as you please to make it bottomless.
