Sustainable Wrapping

In December, the month of giving we’re wrapping more presents than ever! Did you know that in the UK we send 5 million tonnes of wrapping paper to landfill every year? It’s time to be more sustainable and make swaps, so we can reduce this huge amount of waste. Keep reading to find out our favourite alternatives!

Things to look out for

What types of wrapping paper can’t be recycled?

Plastic cellophane, laminated, foiled or glitter wrapping paper cannot be recycled and will end up in landfill.

Can sellotape be recycled?

No, you must remove sellotape and sticky residue from the paper you are recycling or it will end up in landfill.

Tips and tricks?

Reuse gift bags, don’t throw them away after 1 use. Look out for recycled or recyclable wrapping paper and tissue paper. Swap sellotape for washi tape.

Recyclable Wrapping Paper

WHSmith has this elegant pack of two rolls of kraft paper, one plain and one adorned with a foliage motif.

If you prefer something a bit more colourful, Etsy have plenty of eco wrapping paper for you to explore! Here are some of our favourites.

Tape Alternatives

We all know the classic sellotape, they have taken a step in the right direction by coming out with a zero plastic version! It can be found at Wilko and it’s made with natural, plant-based and renewable ingredients. Without compromising on the stickiness, this is proven to be 50% sticker than competitors and 20% stronger too.

Washi tape is a great alternative to regular tape, it’s biodegradable and therefore can be recycled too! It can be found everywhere nowadays, in all sorts of colours and designs. We love this assortment set from Not On The High Street!

The Accessories On Top

Ribbon

Swap the plastic metallic curling ribbon for raffia or twine, which is just as beautiful! We found a great set on Paperchase. Opt for cotton ribbon, they make each gift look expensive and come in all sorts of gorgeous colours too. This great option is from Etsy.
